GLOSSARY OF VAPING TERMS
The electronic component that turns e-liquid into vapor when heated.
A traditional tobacco cigarette.
The piece that connects the battery (mod) and the tank (atomizer).
Advanced Personal Vape (APV)
A more sophisticated vaping device.
Air Flow Control (AFC)
A small controller that adjusts the drag.
The amount of air inhaled into an atomizer or tank.
The battery automatically starts heating up the atomizer when the user inhales, without pressing a button.
A safety feature that prevents the battery from overheating.
Provide power to the device. Sometimes built-in, sometimes removable and rechargeable.
Usually a square or rectangular design that allows for more battery capacity, digital readouts, temperature control and more, for experienced vapors.
The part of a disposable atomizer where the e-liquid is held.
A small mouthpiece that holds e-liquid.
The atomizer and cartridge in one – they are longer than regular atomizers, hold more liquid and are disposable.
An e-cigarette designed to look like the real thing.
Holds the e-liquid in the e-cigarette (the tank). Includes mouthpiece, atomizer coil and battery connection.
A counterfeit device that copies another design.
Vapers who enjoy creating large clouds of vapor, usually with high-powered devices.
Producing huge volumes of vapor.
Heated metal element which turns e-liquid into vapor.
Material used for wicking coils.
Limits the drag from an e-cig to prevent overheating.
Do it yourself. Can refer to devices or e-liquids.
Inhaling vapor from the mouthpiece.
To refill an atomizer by dripping e-liquid directly onto the coil.
A mouthpiece on the tank that can be attached for dripping.
A bowl shape near the e-cigarette connector. Designed to prevent spilling e-liquid.
Firing the atomizer without any e-liquid to burn off e-liquid residue.
Occurs when there is not enough e-liquid in the tank to produce vapor.
A generic term for vaping devices.
E-Liquid / E-Juice
The liquid that is vaporized in vaping.
A material that absorbs and holds e-liquid.
Vapers who seek out specialized flavors as part of their vaping experience.
Occurs when the atomizer is overfilled with e-liquid.
A high power device where the atomizer is fitted directly to the battery.
A measurement of power for temperature-control mods (the higher the joules, the higher the heat)
Ideal type of wire for coils.
Aka throat hit.
Li-Po/Li-Ion (Lithium Polymer and Lithium Ion)
Types of batteries used in vaping devices. Lithium-based rechargeable is most commonly used.
LED (Light Emitting Diode)
Simulate the burning tip of a traditional cigarette.
Direct inhalation of vapor to the lungs. Vapor is not held in mouth.
mAH (Milliamp Per Hour)
A measurement of battery life (higher mAH = longer life).
Delivers power from a battery directly to the atomizer with no electronic controls.
A smaller version of a standard e-cigarette.
Generic term for advanced vaping devices (vs cig-a-likes).
The tip at the end of the device, used to inhale vapor.
Vapor is first held in the mouth before being inhaled into the lungs.
The unit of measurement of electrical resistance.
PG (Propylene Glycol)
E-liquid ingredient that creates a throat hit. Also carries flavor.
Adding a few drops of liquid to saturate the wick fully before using a new atomizer.
E-cig battery which has a circuit board to control the current.
A self-contained package with everything needed for vaping.
Letting the new liquid sit in open air for the ingredients to settle.
The perfect balance of all parts of the vaping experience (resistance, flavor, etc.)
Dripping e-liquid directly into a device and inhaling without using a drip tip.
Clearomisers with high-capacity containers designed to hold larger amounts of e-liquid.
The sensation of vapor hitting the throat.
A tube shaped e-cig, about the size of a small flashlight.
Exhaling vapor in creative ways - O-rings, dragon breath (exhaling through nostrils), etc.
Any device that produces vapor (instead of smoke).
Refers to the amount of vapor produced.
Tongue coating created by some e-liquids. Interferes with tasting flavors.
VG (Vegetable Glycerin)
E-liquid ingredient that produces vapor.
Unit of electrical measurement.
Unit of electrical output.
Absorbs e-liquid and disperses it to the heating elements in a controlled manner to prevent flooding.
E-liquids with no nicotine.
